I have heard more about Old Colony Mennonites in Mexico, Paraguay and elsewhere in Latin America than about Amish colonies. Some scholarly research has been done on these groups.
I know that there are Amish in Belize and possibly Guatamala, but I know little or nothing about these communities. -

Fri, May 6, 2005 - 11:59 AMI didn't have anything to answer either. My Amish neighbors have a lot of Canadian relatives, but nobody every mentioned any in Latin America.
If I remember, I'll ask some of them when I buy plants from their greenhouses in the next few weeks. -

Tue, April 25, 2006 - 9:45 PMI saw a large number of Amish or Amish looking farms (Architecturally speaking) in Belize when I visited last summer. The ones I saw were selling produce at the farmer's market in San Ignacio. From what the locals told me and books I've read, the Amish were welcomed approximately 50 years ago as the country really didn't have much of an agricultural base at that time due to it's focus on timber production. As such the community now dominates domestric food production as well as a sizable business in pre-fab home construction.
